Andalusia Unveiled: Beyond the Tourist Trail

Embark on an adventure through the heart of Andalusia, where history whispers in ancient ruins, flavors tantalize on your palate, and breathtaking landscapes beckon you to explore. This region of southern Spain holds a captivating charm, promising a journey beyond the usual tourist hotspots.

We stayed two weeks in this area at Karma La Herizza , just a couple of miles from Gaucin and absolutely loved this area away from the touristic hot spots.

We where able to do day trips from here and most were between 30 mins to 2 hours drive.

It was always nice to come home in the evening to happy hour.

The Karma La Herizza resort had basically entertainment every night, ranging from Flamenco dancing, Live music from the 60s, 70 and 80s, acoustic guitar. paella cooking etc.

Karma always has on offer some fabulous deals called "hot deals" whereby you can spend a few days or a week in amazing resorts worldwide for a ridiculously small amount of money. Below are some pics of the resort and you can see the standard of the rooms and most are suites.

Gaucin: A Village Steeped in History

Medieval Charm

Step back in time as you explore Gaucín's winding cobbled streets and beautiful whitewashed houses and discover its Moorish heritage. The 14th-century Moorish castle, perched on the hilltop, offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Climb its ancient walls and imagine the stories they have witnessed over centuries.

We climbed to the top of the castle and just make sure you wear shoes with good soles and you are reasonably fit.

The sweeping views of the Mediterranean Sea and the rugged mountains create a surreal backdrop that seems straight out of a painting.

Don't miss the charming Plaza de la Constitución, where you can enjoy a traditional tapas lunch in one of the local restaurants.

The food in Gaucin is exceptional and they have a Michelin restaurant called Platerco that we indulged in twice.

Hiking Adventures

Gaucín offers an array of hiking trails for all levels of adventurers. Explore the rugged beauty of the Sierra de Grazalema, a natural park known for its breathtaking scenery. Follow winding paths through forests of cork oaks and pines, discover hidden waterfalls, and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Keep an eye out for the elusive Iberian ibex, a wild goat native to the region, as you hike.

We came across donkeys, horses , wild goats on our walk. All the walks are well marked and range from a few miles to a full day.

We just loved Tarifa as it was very chilled with definite hippy vibes. A really nice place to walk around and enjoy lunch at the beachfront cafes. Tarifa , if you're an Australian reminded me of Byron Bay or if you're from Bali, very much the same feel as Uluwatu.

Take a boat trip across the Strait of Gibraltar and marvel at the iconic Rock of Gibraltar, a British overseas territory. As we crossed the iconic Puente Nuevo, a bridge connecting the old and new town, I couldn't help but marvel at the architectural marvels that stood the test of time.
