"The Ultimate Guide to Exploring Crete: The Jewel of the Mediterranean"

Crete, the largest of the Greek islands, offers a captivating blend of natural beauty, rich history, and authentic local culture, often overlooked by mainstream tourists. Venture beyond the well-trodden paths to discover the island's hidden gems and immerse yourself in the true essence of Cretan life.

We spent 2 weeks in Crete staying at the beautiful Karman Minoan Resort , part of The Karma Group. You seriously couldn't find a boutique hotel with better views.

This is our second time in Crete. We went there just before Covid, we booked 1 week at Karma Minoan and ended up staying for 9 weeks, we just loved it.

The Karma Group is really an entertainment experience as each night they offer something different. It could be traditional Greek dancing with a sumptuous Greek buffet, live music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, acoustic guitarist player, cocktail night etc

We've been Karma members for 7 years and we have travelled to some stunning locations. Every month they advertise new "hot deals" that is hotels all over the world offered at incredible prices. You will be amazed at the great deals offered.

Just ask me if you're interested in becoming a Karma member.

Every Sunday late afternoon, every Karma resort have FREE members drinks and of course happy hour every day. Members of course get 25% discount on all food and drinks.

Karma Minoan also has FREE yoga classes with the best view ever.

Discovering Crete's Hidden Gems: Charming Villages and Untouched Landscapes

Charming Cretan Villages

Explore the island's picturesque villages, where time seems to stand still. Wander through winding streets, admire the traditional architecture, and engage with the friendly, welcoming locals.

Untouched Landscapes

Discover Crete's untamed natural beauty, from the majestic White Mountains to the secluded, pristine beaches. Immerse yourself in the island's rugged terrain and uncover its hidden natural wonders.

Indulging in Authentic Cretan Cuisine: Flavors of the Mediterranean

Cretan food is arguably the best in Greece, the island’s diverse landscapes producing everything from mountain herbs, greens and tangy cheese to delicious olive oils, freshly caught fish and crispy pastry snacks, such as  spanakopita – golden flaky pastry, stuffed with salty feta and herbs. Best of all, because this area of Crete is off the mainstream tourist trail, even the most spectacularly situated taverna rarely gets overrun.

Olive Oil and Wine

Crete is renowned for its exceptional olive oil and wine, both staples of the Mediterranean diet. Savor the rich, peppery flavors of local olive oils and indulge in the island's renowned vintages. Good wine was incredibly inexpensive.

Meze Delights

Cretan meze, a selection of small plates, offers a delightful way to sample the diverse flavors of the island. From dolmades to dakos, each dish showcases the freshness and simplicity of Cretan cuisine.

Rustic Taverna Experiences

Our fave place for a foodie experience , is the quaint seaside village of Mochlos,. Half a dozen restaurants, all cobalt wooden chairs, whitewashed tables and blackboards offer gyros and freshly caught fish. You'll see a handful of locals toweling off after a late swim, and then sit down and chat about the day. The food, the atmosphere was simply amazing.

There is truly nothing better than a cold beer or red house wine with fresh octopus and a Greek salad.

Hiking Trails

Explore the island's extensive network of hiking trails, from the challenging Samaria Gorge to the scenic coastal paths, offering breathtaking views and a chance to connect with nature. Crete has some great hikes but remember in summer go early in the morning and take water. I really enjoyed walking early in the morning just after sunrise along the beach path.

Stunning Beaches

Discover Crete's stunning beaches, from the secluded coves of the north to the dramatic, rocky coastlines of the south, each offering a unique and unforgettable experience.

Dramatic Landscapes

Marvel at the island's dramatic landscapes, including the majestic White Mountains, the deep, rugged gorges, and the serene, turquoise-hued lagoons that dot the coastline.

Experiencing the Vibrant Nightlife and Lively Tavernas

Curated Events By The Karma Group

Whilst staying in Crete we did a fabulous curated event with other guests....what an amazing experience.

How does sailing around Crete sound with a BBQ lunch, diving off the boat, snorkeling, local wine, salty air, and the most pristine clear water you could imagine......ah...mazing!!!

The next day we spent at the super luxe Macramé Beach Club. A day of relaxing, water sports, great food with views to die for.
